In Deutschland h\u00f6rte ich von dem Bon Odori und war sehr beeindruckt von dieser japanischen Tradition.
\nDie Geister der Vorfahren werden an diesem Festtage im August eingeladen zur\u00fcckzukehren und man
\ntanzt auf dem Dorfplatz am Abend mit Ihnen zusammen. Aus meiner europ\u00e4ischen Sicht erscheint es mir
\nzu gleich fr\u00f6hlich und anmutig, mit diesem Ritual der Vergangenheit und den Verstorbenen zu gedenken.
\nIm Rahmen der Funasaka Biennale tanzten 30 Einwohner von Funasaka f\u00fcr mich den speziellen Funsaka
\nBon Odori. Diese einzelnen T\u00e4nze wurden im Computer wieder zu einer Parade zusammen gef\u00fcgt. Auf diese
\nWeise sind nur die Darsteller wichtig. Mit ihren Bewegungen und Beziehungen untereinander erz\u00e4hlen sie
\neine eigene Geschichte.
\nDas Video spielt auf einer Kalkwand in einem traditionellen, japanischen Haus in Funasaka.
\nNur die T\u00e4nzer sind sichtbar und sie erscheinen wie Geister in der Wand.<\/p>\n

The Bon Odori is a japanese tradition dance. On this special day in August the ancestor spirits are invited
\nto come back to their homes. At night the people gather at a public place to dance around a tower with
\nmusicians and dancers.<\/em>
\n30 people from Funasaka danced the Bon Odori for me. Only one at a time. Then I used special effects to
\nput them back together to form a parade again.<\/em> This way only the dancers and their performances are
\nimportant. With their movements and relations they tell a story of their own.<\/em> This Bon Odori dance is
\nspecial for the small mountain town of Funasaka which is situated near Osaka in Japan.<\/em>
\nThe video is screened on a chalk wall in an old traditional japanese house in Funasaka. Only the dancers
\nare visible and they appear as ghosts inside the wall. Like ancester spirits.<\/em>
\n\u201eAs an artist I am very much interested in moving performances that I like to capture on video and make
\nspecial composition with them. I prefer a black background as this refers to a basic theatrical setting to
\nperform a theatrical play. The actors are very important and they have to create the story only with their
\nactions and movements.<\/em><\/p>\n
